I come from a background of no doctors in the family. So getting into MBBS (as it is fondly called, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) at Siddhartha Medical College, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences was my first reality check to a life full of surprises, overwhelming curriculum, and a constant thirst to do better, year by year. Time flew and I was at the crossroads of choosing between Medicine (my childhood dream, MEDICINE – CARDIOLOGY – INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGIST, don’t ask me why!) and GYNAECOLOGY!
It was a bit of peer pressure and convenience that led to me choosing Gynaecology. I completed my master’s aka DNB Obstetrics & Gynaecology from Vijaya Hospital. For everyone who has never heard of a DNB course, it’s a 3-year course, offered in some of the reputed institutes all over India, with an entry and an exit exam! The exit exam is one of the toughest that can exist and I highly recommend the course because the program makes you unapologetically competent, bold, and probably the best!
I did share my sour moments with the department. I never looked at myself as a surgeon or someone who deals with blood until I found myself delivering the first baby! And from then on, there was no looking back.

These are the most critical and defining factors for a gynecologist and I learned them right from some of the best people in my field!
My passion for childbirth, creating a safe space for women to deliver not just clinically and physically but also psychologically and emotionally, as childbirth is a conglomeration of various neruohormonal psychosocial factors, originates from my mentor DR SAVITHRI SUBRAMANIYAM who made me fall in love with the subject when I thought I am probably never made for this! Today, with utmost confidence, I say I am where I always wanted to be! I am an ardent believer in physiological & natural birth and specialize in the same. To witness birth as is and intervene when the mum or the baby gives the sign to!
I also specialize in Reproductive medicine, dealing with basic and advanced infertility and Laparoscopy, from Wings IVF, affiliated with Parul University, Ahmedabad.
The birth wave is a comprehensive women’s health space. From young girls and adolescents to post-menopausal and old age influences on health, we have simplified the various aspects of a woman’s health.
I deal with women’s health as a whole, integrating the valuable contribution of Nutrition and Lifestyle change complementing the science of treatment. And I think that’s how we should look at in this current era of 100% dependence on Medicine!

I must say I chose the subject of my dreams. Completed my MBBS from – Sri Venkateshwara Medical College and Research Institute, an institute that taught me calm and composure. A perfect mix of medicine and surgery. Only gynaecologists get to experience the best of both sides. Just when we think we are done with being a clinician, our job demands a different side of us – being a surgeon. Completed my post graduation from Vijaya educational and research institute, a place which will remain close to my heart, for the skill i learnt and for the people i met!
Every gynaecologist will always remember their first delivery, their first caesarean and their first major abdominal surgery. They will probably change their way of life, truly and 9/10 times positively. I think, I found my passion in Laparoscopy when I first saw dr kurian Joseph operating a very complicated major abdominal surgery flawlessly with ease. Also the time when I decided laparoscopy is going to be an integral part of my OBGYN career. With over 4000 + hours of personal training in laparoscopy under some renowned stalwarts, I’m proud to say, we at the birth wave are more than capable of dealing with any kind of major procedures to the uterus including cancers, fibroids, endometriosis just to name a few.
Fertility rates have been on the decreasing trend owing to our lifestyle and poor nutrition. From utilising the benefits of functional medicine, exploring the natural remedies to treat infertility to advanced fertility treatments we are perfectly equipped with the right kind of knowledge to aid women in their trying to conceive journey.
Im a mum of two myself so balancing being a gynaecologist and family is a daily uphill battle for me, just like anyone else in their respective field. But everyday is an effort. An effort to live it better than the previous. health always takes a back step for women, specially trying to serve everyone else around them. It was rightly said that ‘prevention is better than cure’ and we at the birth wave like to emphasise on the concept of PREVENTIVE GYNAECOLOGY concentrating on preventable health conditions including cancers, nutritional deficiencies, holistic lifestyle changes.
